Packers Talk

X-A-N-A-X! | Packers Therapy #505

Episode Summary

The Packers survive the Jets 20-17 in overtime despite 199 yards of offense, five fumbles, injuries and a biblical rain of flags. Chris and Dave celebrate Skyy Moore, Trey Smack, Lukas Van Ness and the strange possibility that defense and special teams might actually save Green Bay.

Episode Notes

hris and Dave convene on a Saturday morning, which tells you how long it took to process a Thursday night that ended three touchdowns underwater against Atlanta. The Packers are 1 and 2, the offensive line is setting records nobody wants, and the ESPN cameras found every fan in Lambeau with their head in their hands. Even the team physician has upgraded this season from horror to slasher. The guys open by admitting their preseason predictions already look ridiculous, then spend a long stretch asking bigger questions than one game deserves: LaFleur versus McCarthy, Gutekunst versus Thompson, and whether the whole philosophy that built this roster needs to go.

Neither of them is defending anybody, but they get there differently. One side of the table admires the scheme and the play design while doubting the man has the presence to lead a locker room. The other side thinks the problem isn't soft, it's dumb, and lays out exactly which decisions a paying customer shouldn't have to watch twice. There's real affection for Jordan Love as a human being but real honesty about what he can't do.  There is a genuine appreciation for what Lukas Van Ness has become and a fair hearing for Tucker Kraft, whose postgame answer about the booing gets a Gorman Thomas comparison.

Next stop is Tampa Bay on October 4, a noon Lambeau Field kickoff into what Dave insists is inhuman Florida climate and Chris keeps reminding him is the humidity. Plus a listener question about binge watching a season, a limerick from an actual English professor, and Dave's ongoing thousand-page reading project.

Posting its first show in 2005, Packers Therapy is the longest-running Packers podcast on the Internet. Hosts Chris and Dave began the show as a way of capturing the spirited chats the two co-workers had about the team around the office. The two have no pretense about being experts: they are just two opinionated shareholders who love the team, follow it closely, but don’t always see the Packers fortunes eye to eye.

The guys encourage comments and questions via their Twitter feed @PackersTherapy or email to packerstherapy@yahoo.com and read and respond to as many as they can during each show.
